Not only Art

Guernica is a painting by Pablo Picasso. It was created in response to the bombing of Guernica, a Basque Country village in northern Spain, in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. Guernica is still showing the tragedies of war and the suffering of innocent civilians. This work is a perpetual reminder of the tragedies of war, an anti-war symbol, and an embodiment of peace. Guernica is grey, black and white. Picasso's purpose in painting it was to bring the world's attention to the hooror of the war.

The students analysed the painting. Together they found out the deep meaning of each picture and characters.Class discussion about the war in the past and the actual wars. They underlined on their own the horror and injustice of war in each place or time.

It was not an art lesson : we talked about philosophy, religion and moreover friendship and peace.

Great work children!
