GEOMETRIC BODIES


Today, in second grade, we have worked collaboratively. The challenge we were asked was how to convert


into geometric bodies.

It is a very difficult  to turn a flat shape into a three-dimensional body

First, draw the flat shape. Then, we took a geometric body and thought about the relationship between flat shape and geometric body. And finally, we try to make bodies in three dimensions. For example, you can get a cube (geometric body) with six squares (flat figure).

Layers of the Earth

Elementary students have represented the Earth's layers using plasticine. 



They have then put the name of each layer with a label

Class Dojo + Lego Minifigures

ClassDojo, from which you have probably heard and read a lot, is a classroom management platform involving both students and teachers as well as parents. One of the most successful educational gamification tools in the world, and in August 2015 exceeded 35 million users. Just type it on Google to find Class Dojo in your language (this is the LINK to the British version).






Its objective is to allow the teacher to manage a school classroom based on scores on the behaviour of the children, offering an open interface, very attractive and simple to use and that, in addition, is customizable to the needs of each classroom, each subject and of each teacher. If a student does a brilliant job he will earn points; on the contrary, if it annoys the companions, we can subtract them to his account. And this is just a couple of examples: in ClassDojo, teachers are the ones who decide what sum, what subtraction and in what amounts, and, of course, it depends on the assignment of all these points.


As you can imagine, this tool is, by itself, quite attractive for children, but to go a little further still, in my second grade classes, we have given a "monetary" value to points and children can change the points by parts of a LEGO MINIFIGURE: for every 20 points they can get the legs, the body or a head. 



When the LEGO MINIFIGURE is complete, they can start buying accessories: helmets, magic wands, animals, hats ...



Everybody; parents, students and teachers are enjoying a lot. The parents of my group who are very cooperative, have bought LEGO MINIFIGURES of each child and then I use them in the classroom u as explained before.

Geometric shapes


Today, I have worked with my students geometric figures in a fun way. We made groups and each group had a rubber band that they used to create the figure, each of the students was a vertex.

Literature Fair

On the 27th of April we celebrated the annual Literature Fair. The topic was National  Legends. Pupils of the primary school prepared brief scenes in the  riddles form of chosen legends like Basilisk, Stopped Bugle Call, Gingerbread from Toruń, Sleeping Knights, Billy Goats from Poznań. Thanks to the excellent play of the young actors and the great knowledge of pupils the guessing game was fun. By the way we repeated also English words associated with legends.

LET S CREATE A GAME WITH MAGNETS

EXPLORE THE MATERIAL

HOW TO USE, MAKE, MANIPULATE OBJECTS.

AIMS:

-CREATE A GAME WITH MAGNETS: DOMINOES WITH COLOURS.

-USE A NOTICE OR AN ILLUSTRATED BUILDING FOLDER

-IMAGINE GAME RULES AND FOLLOW THEM.

-TEACH OTHERS HOW TO PLAY WITH THE GAME


KNOWLEDGES: KNOW MAGNETS PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: MATERIALS WHICH ARE ATTRACTED OR NOT. BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY MATERIALS ( METAL, IRON, ALUMINIUM, GLASS, FABRIC, PLASTIC AND WOOD)


STEP 1 :

WHAT IS A MAGNET?WHAT ARE ITS CHARACTERISTICS ?
PUPILS WALK THROUGH THE ROOM LOOKING FOR THINGS ATTRACTED OR NOT. THEY CAN NOTICE THAT ACCORDING TO THEIR POSITIONS, 2 MAGNETS CAN BE JOINED OR ON THE CONTRARY BE PUSHED AWAY.



STEP2:

SELECT OBJECTS ATTRACTED OR NOT BY MAGNETS, CLASSIFY.
SOME OBJECTS ARE DISPATCHED ON TABLES , PUPILS HAVE TO IDENTIFY AND STICK THE PICTURE OF THE OBJECTS AT THE RIGHT PLACE "ATTRACT" OR "DOES NOT ATTRACT". IS IT WOOD, PLASTIC, GLASS...



STEP3:

HOW TO FOLLOW A NOTICE TO CREATE MAGNETS FOR A GAME .
EACH CHILD HAS A CARD WHICH REFERS THE " CORK" HE HAS TO MAKE.
DOMINOES GET TOGETHER IF THEY HAVE THE SAME COLOUR AND OPPOSITE POLARITIES.



STEP 4:

THEY WRITE GAME RULES WITH A LIMITED TIME. THEY CALL THE GAME "LES DOMIS-AIMANTS". THEY ARE READY TO PLAY THEIR OWN GAME.


STEP 5:

PUPILS SHOW THEIR NEW GAME TO THE OTHER CLASS OF YEAR 4 AND 5 AND EXPLAIN HOW TO PLAY.








WATER, A PRECIOUS RESOURCE

DURING SEVERAL WEEKS, PUPILS AGED 9 AND 10 WORKED ON A PROJECT CALLED "WATER, A PRECIOUS RESOURCE".

THERE WERE 7 GROUPS OF 4 CHILDREN AND EACH GROUP WORKED ON A VERY PARTICULAR SUBJECT: FIGHT AGAINST WASTE/ THE WATER TREATMENT MANAGMENT/ THE WATER CYCLE/ DIFFERENCIES BETWEEN WATER ACCESS IN EUROPE AND IN AFRICA/

WHEN PUPILS WERE READY, THEY DECIDED TO SHOW THEIR WORK TO OTHER CLASSES. THEY ENDED THEIR PRESENTATION WITH A LITTLE QUIZZ FOR THEIR CLASSMATES.







ELECTRICITY

WITH PUPILS AGED 8 AND 9 WE WORKED ON INVESTIGATION TO TRY TO ANSWER THE QUESTION : "HOW TO KNOW WHAT MATERIALS DRIVE ELECTRICITY?"

WE MADE ASSUMPTIONS: WE DID AN EXPERIENCE TO VALIDATE OR NOT OUR ASSUMPTIONS.

WE DID RESEARCHES AND GAMES TO KNOW HOW TO PREVENT FROM THE DANGERS OF ELECTRICITY.

WE SHARED OUR GAMES WITH YOUGER PUPILS AGED 6 AND 7 WHO WERE VERY HAPPY TO PLAY AND MANIPULATE.
